A family-owned business that has operated in the Romford area for over 30 years
Havering Care Homes operates two purpose-built care homes in Havering. Abbcross Nursing Home is situated in Gidea Park, near to Romford town centre. Upminster Nursing Home is situated on the outskirts of rural Upminster, this home has substantial gardens and grounds.
Both homes have onsite free car parking and can be accessed using public transport.
Our experienced staff are committed to providing high quality care and want to create an environment where every resident feels valued, respected and given as much control over their daily living as possible. We are currently working towards meeting the Gold Standards Framework.
Both Abbcross and Upminster Nursing Homes are able to provide nursing care, this means we have nurses on duty 24 hours a day to assist and to support you or your loved one.
Our residents receive the most appropriate support from a professional nurse.
Our range of care services includes; nursing, dementia, residential, respite and end of life.

Types of care
Abbcross and Upminster Nursing Homes have nurses on duty 24 hours a day to assist and support you or a loved one.
Our range of long and short-term care services includes; nursing, dementia, residential, respite, access to private physiotherapy, end of life, recovery from surgery and primary carer holiday cover.
Dementia care
Abbcross and Upminster Nursing Homes have specially trained staff to meet the needs of residents living with dementia.
The homes have also signed up to the Government’s dementia pledge. We are committed to the highest possible standards in dementia care.
As part of our service improvement the homes’ gardens have been designed by a dementia specialist to ensure a safe and accessable space for all.
Residential care
Our modern and clean purpose-built
homes consist of 35 ensuite single
bedrooms at Upminster, and 26 ensuite
bedrooms (2 double bedrooms) at Abbcross. Both homes have large communal lounges and dining areas, plus large landscaped gardens.
Everyday a tasty selection of home cooked food is prepared for residents, along with a fun-filled social activity plan.
Stunning gardens
Both Abbcross Nursing Home and
Upminster Nursing Home have beautiful
gardens. As part of our service
improvement the gardens in both homes
have been designed by a dementia
specialist to ensure the gardens are
accessible to all. Features include
seasonal planting, ponds – and chickens!
Fun activities
Residents are provided with an excellent range of activities. Although residents do not have to take part, we try to encourage everyone to participate. Activities include craftmaking classes, such as making Christmas cards and art pieces. Residents’ craft work is hung proudly around our homes.
Freshly prepared food
We do not buy pre-prepared food, as
many residential homes do. Our food
is cooked in-house, which means we
can offer a varied menu and suit it to
residents' dietary requests. We also
offer a seasonal menu. As part of the activities programme residents will take the opportunity to bake cakes and enjoy them over afternoon tea.
Comfortable rooms
Our rooms are freshly decorated, well
maintained and kept warm, clean and
cosy. Each room features a hospital-style
bed, but feels more like a homely
bedroom. Residents are encouraged to
bring in their personal items; curtains,
photos and bed linen. A number of our rooms in our Upminster home have beautiful views and access on to the garden.
Entertainment/BBQs
When the weather allows we hold BBQs in the gardens of both homes, which are attended by residents, friends and families and by our staffing team. We also have entertainers visit the homes; wonderful singers who know all the classics – a good opportunity for residents to do some dancing or have a sing-a-long!
Fun days out
Both Abbcross Nursing Home and
Upminster Nursing Home run a shared
minibus, which can be used to take
residents on a trip out. We do look for families to support these trips to help ensure their loved ones have a great time.
